Large manure spill threatens trout stream in SE Minn

PRESTON, Minn. Environmental officials are monitoring a potentially devastating situation in southeastern Minnesota after a significant manure spill near Preston.

Heavy rains in recent days caused a large concrete retaining wall to give way at a livestock facility in Fillmore County.

Fisheries experts estimate that a million gallons of raw manure has spilled from a holding lagoon and made its way into a fragile trout stream tributary called Newburg Creek southeast of Preston.

Lanesboro Area Fisheries Supervisor Steve Klotz reports the animal waste is headed for Wisel Creek and could cause tremendous pollution, sanitary problems and fish kills. Cyberpower Gamer XtremeSandy Bridge System Review

Cyberpower Gamer Xtreme 4000 Sandy Bridge System Review

It isnt very often that we have a full system come through our labs here at Legit Reviews. When we do though, we like to give it a solid run through. Now that some of the dust from the Intel Sandy Bridge has settled, we can take a look at a custom built system from our friends over at CyberPower PC. If you arent familiar with Cyberpower PC, heres a quick little blurb about their goals and mission!

CyberPower, Inc. was founded with two simple goals in mind. It is to provide our customers with both personalized cutting edge technology at wholesale prices and an extensive range of technological support. By being the manufacturer and the distributor, we are dedicated to meet your personalized desires with the highest performance for all your gaming and digital media solutions.

The system that we have today is the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000. The CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000 features the latest and arguably greatest Intel Processor, the second generation Intel Core i7 2600K processor. The quality doesnt stop at the processor, though. In order to drive the high resolution of the monitors out there today, Cyberpower configured the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000 with an EVGA Superclocked NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570. These features are just the tip of the iceberg, though. All of the components used in the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000 are top of the line products.

CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000 System Specifications

As you can see CyberPower didnt cut any corners when it comes to the components used in the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000. Much like a good wedding that has an open bar with top shelf liquor, CyberPower PC uses all top shelf components in the Gamer Xtreme 4000! From the 1600MHz Kingston HyperX down to the ASUS P8P67 Pro motherboard, nothing has been left out and nothing has been skimped on!

The CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000 that was sent to Legit Reviews has the Intel Core i7 2600K overclocked to 4.4GHz. If we have learned anything since the release of the Sandy Bridge systems, 4.4GHz is a very conservative overclock these days. While it may be conservative, its still incredibly fast. Not to mention it was rock solid throughout our testing.

Just for entertainment purposes I fired up the system window in Windows 7 Home Premium to check out the Windows Experience Index of the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000. While 5.9 isnt a bad Windows Experience Index, it is a bit misleading. Fortunately, we can dig a little bit deeper and find out what is holding the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 4000 back!

Well, its not exactly a surprise that the lowest score for the Windows Experience Index is the hard drive. Traditional hard drives seem to be limited to a score of 5.9. If you were to custom configure this system with a SSD for a boot drive your base score would undoubtedly be significantly higher. As we mentioned above, the Intel Core i7 2600K processor is overclocked in our test system to 4.4GHz and only scores a 7.6 which happens to be the same score as the Kingston HyperX 1600MHz memory. The EVGA GeForce GTX 570 maxes out the Windows Experience Index with a score of 7.9.

hearts set on pumpkin pie

hearts set on pumpkin pie

Dont mess with the pie.

Unless youre looking for a fight, that is, and there just might be one in my kitchen Thursday if the kids wake up to the aroma of turkey, dressing and cranberry sauce, but no pumpkin pie.

I think theyd probably revolt. Or at least pool their money, get the oldest to drive them to the store and buy their own thats how important the pie is.

Such scenarios are always a possibility when I suggest tampering with tradition. No need to get creative with the stuffing; Stove Top suits them just fine. Sweet potatoes? Dont even mention messing with the marshmallows. This year, I thought I might take a chance and make a few improvements on the typical pumpkin pie. Maybe even make a cheesecake instead.

Youd think Id suggested canceling the entire holiday.

Its not like I would completely abandon the pumpkin component. I just thought maybe a pumpkin cheesecake might be nice. Or maybe a pumpkin cheesecake with a layer of chocolate over the crust.

OK, so maybe our Thanksgiving dessert lineup just needs a little more chocolate. Or maybe a lot more can you ever really have enough?

As for the pumpkin pie, I decided not to give up on my cheesecake concept. The recipe I finally settled on, from Southern food diva Paula Deen, includes an 8ounce package of cream cheese, a cup of halfandhalf and plenty of pumpkin for my pie purists.

And did I mention the melted butter? This is, after all, a Paula Deen pie.

But Thanksgiving is no time to quibble about calories and cholesterol. So in went the cream and the melted butter, along with the cream cheese and a little extra ground ginger, just because its one of my favorite spices. You could leave it out or add a bit of nutmeg or allspice if youd rather.

The pie bakes for the better part of an hour, and the recipe calls for cooling it to room temperature before slicing unlike many pumpkin pie recipes that assume you have the time and/or willpower to refrigerate it for hours.

Im hopeful that my dont callitcheesecake pie will keep everybody happy, but maybe Ill make the recipe from the back of the canned pumpkin label, too just in case. And an apple pie for my dad. And pecan for Mom.

How To Help Yourself

How To Help Yourself

Dyhidrosis eczema is a less frequent kind of eczema affecting only 20 of every 100,000 Americans. However, it manages to have the most unattractive symptoms compared to the other kinds. Its symptoms are quite unpleasant such that the social life of those who have it is negatively affected, since other people perceive their condition as contagious even though its not. If you have dyshidrosis eczema or a person in your family has it, you need to know about this condition so you can help yourself or the one that you know.

What is dyshidrosis eczema?

Dyshidrosis eczema is a kind of eczema where the uppermost layer of the skin is irritated. The word dyhidrosis was derived from the term dyshidrotic which has the meaning bad sweating. This is due to the fact that it was originally thought that dyshidrosis eczema is caused by a lot of sweating. But, excessive sweating as a cause was later discredited since many people who had dyshidrosis eczema did not experience sweating beyond the normal amount.

Dyshidrosis eczema is also labeled dyshidrotic eczema which is usually misspelled as dyshydrotic eczema, pompholyx, cheiropompholyx, podopompholyx, and acute vesiculobullous hand eczema. The condition can either be acute, chronic, or recurrent, and only affects the fingers, palms, and soles of the feet. Since it affects the hands and feet, the rashes associated with it are difficult to hide from others.

What are the symptoms of eczema dyshidrotic?

In general, the rashes associated with dyshidrosis eczema are clear vesicles that are severely itchy. These rashes have a quick onset and can be characterized as being acute if they last for a short period of time, chronic if the rashes stay for more than weeks, and recurrent if they continue to come back. These red itchy blisters are very small and can be 3 millimeters or less in diameter. But, there are some people who dont have itching blisters, some people who feel pain as their symptom, and yet others who dont feel anything whatsoever.

The blisters manifest in groups on the sides and tips of fingers and toes, as well as on the palms and soles of the feet. In the worst cases of dyshidrosis eczema, the group of small blisters may come together and form larger blisters. If you look closely at the blisters and touch them, you will find that they are slightly elevated and do not break easily. When you scratch the blisters though, they can break and ooze clear fluid that is actually serum and not sweat as was initially thought. After the blisters have broken and the serum has leaked out, the skin will over the next few weeks or month crust and crack, leading to peeling. The peeling hands and peeling feet are often accompanied by pain, causing severe discomfort for the affected person.

What causes dyhidrosis eczema?

The exact cause of dyshidrosis eczema is unknown but there are a number of factors linked to its aggravation. What is established though is that science dismisses the condition as a sweating disorder.

Like many kinds of eczema, eczema dyshidrotic is linked to stress. Although many patients deny that stress is a possible factor to have caused their symptoms to appear, stress has always been known to trigger vesicular eruptions. Thus, doctors still believe that dyshidrosis eczema may be linked to stress.

Local infection of the hands or the feet are believed to be another possible cause of the condition. An example is fungal infections such Athletes foot.

Prolonged exposure to sunlight, water that has undergone several treatment processes, chlorinated water, antibacterial soaps, strong fragrances, fresh meat, and fruit juices have been reported to trigger outbreaks of blisters in some patients.

Foods with high nickel content such as cocoa products, whole grains, and nuts lead to dyshidrosis eczema in people who have nickel allergies.

Allergies to soy, coffee, teas, carbonated beverages, alcohol, latex and vinyl gloves, and leather treated with preservatives are also linked to the manifestaton of dyshidrotic blisters in some people.

Hes not just a pretty face

Hes not just a pretty face

HE considered the pretty boy of the V8 Supercar circuit after winning hearts on popular reality show Dancing with the Stars.

But James Courtney wife of four years Carys, and their oneyearold daughter Zara, keep him grounded.

Mrs Courtney said while it could be nerveracking watching her husband tearing around the track at speeds over 250km/h, she supported his career wholeheartedly.

I am now quite a motorsport fan thanks to James. Before James I had zero interest, it was ball sports or nothing.

I go to as many races as I can. People ask whether it scary having your husband racing _ it is definitely more so if you not at the track. Anything can happen.

But professional athletes don benefit from their partner . . . being anxious, or nervous or fearful.

You have to have faith in their ability.

I have seen him flip . . . cars a few metres away _ and he walked away. You really do have to have confidence in the safety of the category.

Then there the fear of them not doing well by things out of their control _ that tough, but the ups are great and it all worth it at the end of the day.

The couple met in Sydney in 2001 and Carys moved overseas with James as he pursued his career.

He got a great opportunity to race in Japan, so we both went for his career. It was a whole new culture and what a way to see it _ working over there as well.

The couple returned to Australia in 2005 after the opportunity to race in the V8 Supercar Championship series arose.

Mrs Courtney worked as a vet nurse until her daughter Zara was born a year ago and now she is a contented stayathome mum.

I thriving on it, I love it. It nice to be able to be home with her, watching and helping her grow.

Mrs Courtney said Zara went to her first V8 race to cheer Dad on at Hamilton in New Zealand this year but the tot wouldn be coming to Townsville.

He got a podium, so he telling me to bring her to more, so the luck rubs off a bit.

Mrs Courtney said James couldn wait to hit the track in Townsville _ and she was looking forward to visiting the city over the weekend.

James was a part of the opening ticket sale launch a few months ago and he came back buzzing. He said it going to be great, the atmosphere was already great.

Mrs Courtney laughs at the sex symbol status her husband achieved while performing on Dancing with the Stars in 2007.

When it came up I said are you serious? It was just a totally different opportunity for him.

It was more seeing other people reactions. When they had a love scene in the dance, people would say, how do you feel about that, she said.

I was sitting there in rehearsal all week, it was all good.

Ginger candies tainted with lead recalled

Ginger candies tainted with lead recalled

SACRAMENTO Buyers of a brand of Vietnamese ginger candies imported by a San Jose company are being advised to take precautions after tests revealed lead levels in the sweets that far exceed state guidelines.

Simply labeled Ginger Candy, the hard candies imported from Vietnam by San Josebased Evershing International Trading were recalled by the company after tests by the California Department of Public Health revealed traces of lead as high as 0.12 parts per million, director Dr. Ron Chapman said in a statement.

This concentration of lead could provide up to 10.21 micrograms of lead per serving, nearly double the amount at which children under 6 should cap their daily intake6.0 micrograms, from allThe candy is sold in a 12ounce clear plastic container with a white label, and red lettering spelling out the words Ginger Candy appears on the lid and on the center of the label. On the top of the label is a drawing of a coconut tree, and the yellow pieces of dehydrated ginger, covered in sugar, are visible through the container.

Evershing International Trading is working with the health agency to remove the tainted candies from the marketplace, and consumers who already own the candies should throw them away immediately, Chapman said.

Pregnant women and parents of children who may have eaten the candy should talk to their doctor to determine whether medical testing is needed.
